Man of Steel didn’t perform the way I would have hoped it would moving into its second weekend. While World War Z and Monsters University didn’t wow critics after all the reviews popped up online, they both walked away bigger winners than expected. World War Z performed better than expected and much better than what I anticipated. However, the number one movie this weekend caught me by surprise.
Monster’s University turned in a big weekend with a tremendous
$82 million. Every single one of Pixar’s films has debuted in the
number one spot opening weekend. This is the biggest Pixar opening
since Toy Story 3 back in June of 2010. World War Z placed second with $66 million. This is really Brad Pitt’s biggest movie ever. Looking back at his track record, World War Z made $16 million more than his previous biggest hit, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Man of Steel placed third with $41.2 million, dropping 65% from last week. This Is the End placed fourth with $13 million. Finally, Now You See Me placed fifth with $7.7 million.
